— 1 FOR THE PEOPLE FOR EDVCATION FOR SCIENCE LIBRARY OF THE AMERICAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY CLfVCLV PACIFIC COAST AVIFAUNA, No. 6 I N DEX TO THE BULLETIN TO THE _ _ COOPER ORNITHOLOGICAL CLUB Volume I— 1899 AND ITS CONTINUATION THE CONDOR Volumes 1 1 -X— 1900- 1908 COMPILED AND EDITED BY HENRY BARROILHET KAEDING A.C.M.M.S.S.A., M.A.I. M.E., M.C.A.S., M.C.O.C. •V- mm Los ANGELES, California Published by the Cooper Ornithological Club 1909 PRESS OF The New Era Printing Compan Lancaster. Pa INTRODUCTION. The following pages contain the Index to the first ten volumes of the Bulletin of the Cooper Ornithological Club, of which only the first volume ( 1899) bears this title, the subsequent nine ( 1900-1908) being known as " The Condor." There have been no special features embodied in this work for the reason that the present chaotic state of the nomenclature of North American birds renders any system based thereupon exceedingly unstable. It has been thought advisable, therefore, to list species and subspecies exactly as they were found to occur in the text, with only minor changes as will be noted herein. The details of the arrangement are as follows: 1. Authors. — Titles of papers are in chronological order, the abbreviation " Rev." being used to indicate a review of the paper. 2. Genera. — Species and subspecies are indexed in alphabetical order under their respective genera, the Roman numeral in heavy type indicating the volume. The scientific names used are in the main taken from the " Auk " twenty-five year index; in the vernacular names the possessive has been discarded. 3. Neiv Species, etc. — A separate list has been made of the new species and subspecies described, and in the body of the Index an original description is indicated by the abbreviation " desc." The editor herewith extends heartfelt thanks to Prof. Joseph Grinnell for many valuable suggestions in the work, to his wife, Mary C. Kaeding, for aid in the drudgery of compilation, and to ]\Ir. W. Otto Emerson and Mr. Howard Robertson, committee on ways and means for the publication of this work. Henry B.\rroiliiet Kaeding.
